Direct Line Home Contents Cover also includes accidental damage to home entertainment equipment, including computers and monitors as standard. Possessions temporarily taken outside of your home to another secure property in the British Isles are covered too. If any of your home contents are temporarily removed (for example, if your children take belongings away to university), they will be covered up to a value of £5,000 or 15% of the sum insured, whichever is greater. Therefore, if a laptop is stolen on campus, you would be able to make a claim. Accidental damage cover is not provided however, in these instances.

Invest in Direct Line's Personal Possessions Cover – an additional extra on your home contents – and your personal effects will also be covered while on the move in the UK and abroad for up to 60 days (limit of £7,500 applies). This cover is useful if your computer is a laptop, for example. Remember, if it's worth more than £1,500 you'll have to specify it.

Because computers and related items are often given as gifts or bought during festive period sales, Direct Line also automatically raises your home contents cover by £5,000 or 10% of the contents sum insured (whichever is greater) over the Christmas period.
