Van insurance - Tips
In many cases, vans play an integral roll in business, here Direct Line van insurance takes a look at some of the most secure vans on the market.
When you come to buy a new van, either for your business or for personal use, it’s a good idea to choose a model with high-spec security features.
But how do you know which are the most secure vans on the market? Well, in 2009, for the first time the British Insurance Vehicle Security Awards have included vans as well as cars.
And the winners were…
- In the Light Van category, the most secure award went to the Peugeot 207. The 207 comes with the latest transponder immobiliser and automatic deadlocking – to stop thieves simply smashing a window and opening the door from the inside. For added security an alarm is an optional extra.
- In the Heavy Van category, the winner was the Renault Trafic. This van is packed with security features, including anti-drill door locks, alarm and remote central locking with deadlocking. An anti-intruder device prevents anyone getting into the van once it’s on the move by automatically locking the doors when the van is travelling at over 5mph.
- The Mitsubishi L200 drove away with the award in the Pick-up category. The L200 has an alarm and immobiliser as standard, as well as a visible vehicle identification number (VIN), which police say is a deterrent to thieves because it makes the van easier to track down after it has been stolen.
- Finally, in the 4x4 Van category, the Citroën C-Crosser Enterprise was the winner, while Citroën also picked up the overall manufacturer’s award. The C-Crosser Enterprise comes with an alarm, immobiliser, deadlocks and remote central locking as standard. It automatically relocks after 30 seconds if all the doors are closed, in case you forget – and the doors will automatically lock once you are driving.
